Cubs

In January 2017, our Cub group entered the annual District Cub Cooking Competition. Eight Cub groups from across Chesterfield took part. Each group (consisting of three or four cubs) had to make a two-course meal for two on the theme “The Great British Menu”.
Groups were marked on the following categories: preparation, hygiene, presentation, imagination, taste and teamwork. Our trio of budding cooks, dished up Posh Baked Beans and Chocolate Mandarin trifle and were delighted to come third! Well done Wingerworth!

As part of the Cubs recent “Kip in a Ship” trip to HMS Belfast, they visited the Imperial War Museum.  At the same time the BBC were filming an episode of “The People Remember”.
Some of the Cubs were lucky enough to listen to a veteran sing about his experiences.  Have a look and see the Cubs on BBC iPlayer in episode 2. Frontline of “The People Remember” series.
You can see a couple of screen caps in the HMS Belfast photo album.

Last month the Cubs enjoyed a visit to HMS Belfast to “Kip in a Ship”.
On the Saturday the Cubs had a tour around HMS Belfast (including an Investiture for some of the newer Cubs), a quick walk around London taking in the sights such as the Tower of London Poppies and dinner at Nando’s.  After a night below decks, the Cubs visited the Imperial War Museum on the Sunday.

It was great to see so many young people and adults supporting Scouting by attending the Parade to honour the patron saint of Scouting – St George.
The weather held out and we were able to Parade in the sunshine.
There are some photos on the website here.
We also feature on the Derbyshire TImes website;

Six of our Cubs volunteered to take place in the Premier Team Challenge event that took place on 22nd March 2014. Each pack from the Chesterfield District are invited to enter a team, so competition was fierce!

In the event, each team did 12 challenges through the course of the afternoon, based on Scouting skills, teamwork and general knowledge.

The six Cubs from Wingerworth worked very hard and combined well as a team to earn top marks during the afternoon and were awarded the competition shield for first place.
